Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have a piece of Wonder Woman concept art along with details from Gal Gadot, director Patty Jenkins and executive producer Geoff Johns.
The heroic moment, which is depiction of the above concept art in live-action, is about halfway through the film, that defines the character for not just the audience but also for herself. While the setting is set in a no man’s land, that pitted the English against the Germans, no land can stop Diana Prince from being active and doing something heroic.
Prince takes it upon herself to cross the land, to save the women and children that are being threatened by the Germans. “It’s a very powerful moment,” Gadot says. “We have a character committing to her true self, doing what she believes needs to be done.”
EW provided a few more plot points that goes as follows:
Diana is thrust toward her destiny after American intelligence officer Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) crashes near her island, pursued by the German army. Trevor has discovered that German general Erich Ludendorff (Danny Huston) has plans to release a chemical super weapon, potentially killing millions. Diana wants to help — convinced that this evil could only be the work of Ares, the God of War.
Trevor escorts Diana to England, where she catches her first glimpse of industrialized London, or Man’s Land, a world she doesn’t quite understand, specifically the era’s antiquated gender and social norms. But it’s this battlefield scene that marks the first time Diana reveals her iconic garb.
Jenkins equates this specific battlefield moment to Superman ripping apart his dress shirt to unveil the S across his chest: “It’s when she says, ‘Enough is enough.’”
Executive producer and co-head of DC Films Geoff Johns added, “[This scene] reminds me of when Superman caught Lois and caught the helicopter [in the 1978 movie].” Johns continued with, “But this one is even more visceral.”
Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Robin Wright as General Antiope, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Lucy Davis as Etta Candy, David Thewlis, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Ewen Bremner and Saïd Taghmaoui. The film is directed by Patty Jenkins and written by Patty Jenkins, Allan Heinberg, and Geoff Johns, story by Zack Snyder & Allan Heinberg.
Wonder Woman is slated for release on June 2, 2017.
