Garima Lohia is the UPSC CSE second topper in 2022. The result of which was declared on 23rd May, 2023. Her performance is even more remarkable as she has dine entire preperation from home in a small town Buxar, Bihar. She has broken the myth of necessity of taking coaching classes and preparing from cities.
Unfortunately, the debate of her caste has also come to the fore. She has been termed as Gurjar by some. It may be noted here that Lohia is a Gurjar surname. But, people forget about Ram Mohan Lohia, who was not a Gurjar.

Well, by caste Garima Lohia is a Baniya. In Bihar and Eastern UP, lots of Baniya families have Lohia surname. There is also a Lohia Nagar in Patna which is named after a Baniya local leader.
