The Minister for Energy Mr. Boakye Agyarko has charged the newly constituted Board of Directors of the Volta River Authority (VRA) to pursue government restructuring policy directive on the state power generation entity by making sure that VRA becomes a holding company as soon as possible.

“The Board is expected to address and carry out the Government’s policy directive on VRA’s restructuring and ensure that it is inclusive, consultative and does not pose a potential disruption to the operations of the power sector,” he said.
“The reorganization should to the extent feasible and practicable convert all non – power businesses of VRA to viable commercial ventures so that they do not act as a drain on the operations of VRA,” he added.
The Energy Minister gave the charge in a speech delivered by the deputy Minister of Energy in-charge of power Hon. William Owuraku Aidoo at the inauguration of an eight member Board of Directors of VRA.
The new Board is chaired by Mr. Kweku Andoh Awotwi, a former Chief Executive of VRA under late President Mills.
Other members of the Board are Mr. Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa current CEO of VRA, Mr. Richard Obeng Okrah and Dr. Rosalind Aryee.
The rest are Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Mr. El- Farouk Umar, Mr. Musah Badimsugru Adam and Mrs. Janet Anane.

The Sector Minister admonished the new Board to provide right leadership to enable VRA maintain its reputation as one of the best generating utilities in the sub region and as a generator of choice in line with its corporate vision.
Mr. Boakye Agyarko indicated that government had instituted various initiatives, strategies and mechanisms such as Energy Bonds, Cash Waterfall Mechanism etc to resolve challenges like the legacy debt, financial sustainability of the entities and prudent management of the hydro resources.
He called on the management and staff of VRA to be open- minded and assists the Board and Government to make VRA relevant.
The new Board Chairman of VRA Mr. Kweku Andoh Awotwi who commended President Akufo-Addo for the honour pledged their commitment to bring their expertise to bear to actualize President’s vision.
