You probably haven’t heard of Maghawir Al-Thawra. That’s because they are a shady group of “name-shifters” in the Syrian conflict. They have gone through several “re-brandings,” relaunches, and reformations in their nebulous and shadowy career, usually under the auspices of the US Deep State. In short, they are an astroturf operation rather than a grassroots one.
Now it seems that they’ve had a new infusion of money, weapons, and mercenaries from the US government and the Arab “cuck” state of Jordan, and are on a roll. In recent days they have made massive gains in the Southern desert against ISIS, who are overstretched elsewhere, fighting US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces in the North and the Assad regime in the West.
Maghawir Al-Thawra, whose forerunners had been badly defeated in the past, and which had shrunk to a handful of fighters living in exile and prison, was apparently reequipped and restaffed in December in Jordan, before being sent across the border earlier this year to attack ISIS positions in Syria. In the last few days they have advanced nearly 200 kilometres towards the Euphrates river.
Looking at the war map, it becomes obvious now what the US-strategy in Syria is. Namely, it is aimed at isolating the Assad Regime from its supporters in Iraq and Iran by creating a “cordon sanitaire,” stretching down from Turkey to Jordan, and using the Kurds in the North and Maghawir Al-Thawra in the south.
Rather than let that happen, Assad and his Russian and Iranian backers should push East from Palmyra to the besieged garrison at Deir ez-Zor, and use such gains to maintain lines of communication between Damascus, Baghdad, and Tehran.
