If reliable and comprehensive 4G coverage is a must for you, then Middlesbrough should be your next move.
The north-east city has been identified as the best in Britain for 4G access with 83% availability – ahead of Sheffield and neighbours Sunderland and Leicester.
The bottom four towns for 4G coverage feature Bournemouth, Southampton/Portsmouth, Cardiff and Nottingham.
Consumer group Which? Measured data from mobile phones in 20 towns and cities up and down the country to arrive at its league table. London came a lowly 16th for 4G access.
The average overall 4G availability across the UK is 65%, meaning mobile users can only access 4G nearly two-thirds of the time.
The report also looked at average 4G download speeds across the UK. Stoke-on-Trent was found to be the fastest city, with Brighton the slowest.
“These latest findings underline the need for Ofcom to keep the pressure on mobile operators, so that every part of the country gets a decent service on their mobile phone,” said Alex Neill, Which? managing director of home products and services.
“Our mobile phone is central to how we live our lives and that is why it is so frustrating when we can’t access emails or browse the internet on the go.”
