With the onset of 2018, Bollywood is gearing up for the first box office battle. This time Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man will lock horns with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, and all eyes are on this big box-office clash. After countless controversies, Bhansali decided to release the period drama on January 25, despite stiff compeition from Pad Man.
While the makers of Padmaavat have remained tight-lipped about the box-office clash, Pad Man producer Twinkle Khanna has this to say about both the films releasing on the same day.
Twinkle, who has turned producer with R Balki’s directorial venture, says that despite the clash, Pad Man is not ready to move to another date, and will take Padmaavat head on.
“It’s not pleasant for both (the parties) and will impact both. But they have also been through enough of their own hurdles. But I wish they would have come a week earlier or a week after us preferably. I am sure Mr (Sanjay Leela) Bhansali has made a wonderful movie but we are very confident of our content. So, I am not apprehensive, and we are not going to move or anything because we are very happy with what (date) we have. (laughs),” Twinkle told Hindustan Times.
More than anything, Twinkle is happy that her husband Akshay Kumar is experimenting with roles and stories with each film. “He has been making relevant choices. He has also been undergoing a personal evolution. What I find remarkable, as somebody who has been with him for almost 18 years now, is that he isn’t afraid to take leaps and change with times and grow. Even his thought process vis-a-vis what he would think 10 years ago and now, is evolving. That’s (how) all of us (are) at this age,” she added.
Pad Man is a biopic on Arunachalam Muruganantham, and will chronicle his journey of finding a way to make cheap, affordable sanitary napkins for women in his village. The film also stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte.
