Truck drivers often travel lonely roads at night. They see many unusual sights. One story stands out among the rest. It’s a tale of a guardian spirit that still gives chills.
Rainy Night in Detroit
It was a rainy night, and I was driving through a construction zone just west of Detroit, Michigan. The clock read 2:00 a.m. I was on a tight schedule and feeling impatient. The rain poured down, making the road slick and visibility low.
As I drove, I noticed an elderly lady standing by a broken-down car. She was soaked, her thin coat offering little protection from the rain. She waved me down desperately.
I felt a tug at my conscience but kept driving. I told myself there were plenty of other drivers who could help her. But as I took the next exit, a wave of regret washed over me. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I should have stopped.
Compelled by an unknown force, I turned my truck around. I headed back to the stranded car. As I pulled up, I noticed two small heads peeking out from the back seat. A young man approached my rig, looking relieved.
I offered to take him and his family to a nearby gas station for help. I watched as he gathered his children and young wife. But where was the elderly lady?
I asked if that was everyone. They looked puzzled. I pressed on, asking about the older lady. They seemed confused. I described her: an overweight woman with snow-white frizzy hair standing in the rain.
The wife suddenly began to cry. I was taken aback. She wiped her nose and told me something that sent chills down my spine.
She explained that I had just described her grandmother, who had passed away recently. The wife said, “I have always heard relatives sometimes return as guardians in times of trouble, but I didn’t believe it until now.”
This encounter has stayed with me for over ten years. I still feel the weight of that night.
Why did I feel compelled to turn back? What force guided me to that spot? I still don’t have the answers. But I believe I encountered something beyond this world that night.
Truck drivers out on dark roads frequently report seeing unusual sights. This story is just one example. It reminds us that we are not alone, even in the darkest moments.
