The 53-year-old made an unexpected trip to Morden when he dropped into the Old Rutlishian Sports Ground to reportedly shoot scenes for his new movie Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.
A post from the club’s Twitter account read: “Let’s hope this coming season isn’t a mission impossible. Mr Top Gun himself dropped by poplar road. @TomCruise.
“I hope he brought his boots!! @TomCruise lands his helicopter on our 1st XV rugby pitch this morning! #jackreacher.”
Wearing a pair of dark blue jeans and a navy knitted jumper, the Jerry Maguire star looked geared up for the tumultuous British weather.
His hair had a windswept look as it lay ruffled to one side, and he clutched onto a sun cap in one hand – perhaps hoping for some warm sun.
Nearby residents took to Twitter to proclaim their confusion and excitement about seeing such a prominent public figure in their local area.
One user wrote: “In others news, Tom Cruise flew into my ward in a helicopter! It all happens in Merton Park!”
Another said: “Tom Cruise landed in a helicopter behind my work earlier apparently???”
“Tom Cruise currently in South Wimbledon filming the new Jack Reacher movie. Landed by helicopter behind my office in Morden #Legend,” a further onlooker beamed.
While the Wimbledon Guardian reported that the actor landed at around 10am to shoot for his new project, The Sun suggested Tom may be off to catch some tennis in at the Grand Slam competition.
