DJI has released a new entry-level drone, called DJI Phantom 3 Standard. As we know, when it comes to drones, DJI is one of the most recommended makers on the field.

Even if we talk about Phantom 3 Advanced or Professional lineup, DJI’s drones are remarkably simple to operate, which makes them recommendable for customers.
However, these facts also come with a big price. The new DJI Phantom 3 Standard is available at the price of 799 dollars, which is pretty expensive.
But, these days, DJI is cutting off prices due to their 10th anniversary. So, this means that if they are lucky, customers will find this new drone at the price of 499 dollars.
To be added that at the moment there is no end date set for the promotion. This means that at the price of 500 dollars, the new drone is an important competitor on the market. It is hard to find a quadcopter with such incredible features on any other product on the market.
As it was mentioned earlier, DJI Phantom 3 Standard (Official website: is an entry-level model, meaning that it has fewer features compared with other products from DJI. So, for starters, this new model doesn’t come with the Visual Positioning System, which would have allowed users to fly it indoors without GPS.
Moreover, this drone uses only GPS for positioning outdoors, while on the other side, the Advanced and Professional drones from DJI use GSP, as well as GLONASS. This feature is known as a secondary satellite system for more accurate and faster positioning provided by GPS alone.
However, probably that the biggest difference between the new DJI Phantom 3 Standard and Professional and Advanced drones from DJI is the controller. Yes, the one that comes with Professional and Advanced models feature DJI’s Lightbridge technology for better video image transmission.
So, instead of having Lightbridge, this new drone features a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi range extender for transmitting the live view from the model to a smartphone. This means that probably users will have a loss or a delay of signal in the video downlink. Another minus is that the transmission range is limited to a maximum 1,000 meters.
To be added that the higher-end drones from DJI have camera controls on their controller, including buttons for starting and stopping recordings or taking pictures. Unfortunately, the Standard’s controller only has an adjustment wheel for tilting the camera up and down.
As for the camera, DJI Phantom 3 Standard uses a similar distortion-free, 94-degree wider-angle f2.8 lens, but it only has a maximum recording resolution of 2.7K HD video. Moreover, the new Standard drone snaps 12-megapixel photos in both JPEG formats and Adobe DNG raw.
To be added that this new drone uses Intelligent Flight batteries. What does that mean? Well, it means that users will be able to check the health of individual cells via the Go app. Moreover, users should also know that older batteries won’t work. The company has declared that flight times are somewhere around 25 minutes.
