The Hollywood Knights (1980) Movie Review, Cast & Crew, Film Summary

The Hollywood Knights 1980  Led by their comedic and pranking leader, Newbomb Turk, the Hollywood Knights car gang raise hell throughout Beverly Hills on Halloween Night, 1965. Everything from drag racing to Vietnam to high school love.

The Hollywood Knights 1980 Movie Review

American Graffiti meets Porky’s in this raunchy yet hilarious nostalgia-themed comedy. Theoretically, it makes sense to combine these two disparate forms of humour, but in fact, it falls flat. Because of this, When it comes to the Hollywood Knights, there is no such thing as consistency. When Duke and Suzi’s love entanglements appear, the picture’s pace is immediately halted, and the Vietnam War-themed subplot developed around Jimmy Shine seems like it was spliced in from another film.

All these “high school pupils” appear like they’re in their early twenties, which is another issue. It’s not a complete waste of time for the Hollywood Knights, though, thanks to its goofy sense of comedy; the gang’s efforts to interrupt the grownups’ civic rituals are ridiculous but successful, and Robert Wuhl makes a memorable manic impression as comic antihero Newbomb Turk.

A failed romance between Newbomb and Sally and a couple of sex-crazed adulterers by Leigh French and Randy Gornel are two of the show’s other hilarious highlights. While The Hollywood Knights aren’t very successful, they nevertheless provide enough laughs for comedy fans to consider it a success.
