The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is a forthcoming American television special based on the Marvel Comics superhero team Guardians of the Galaxy, written and produced by James Gunn for the streaming service Disney+. It is scheduled to be the second Marvel Studios Special Presentation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), continuing the franchise’s films and television shows. Marvel Studios created the special, which follows the Guardians of the Galaxy as they celebrate Christmas and look for a present for their leader, Peter Quill.
Chris Pratt (Quill), Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, Michael Rooker, and Zoe Saldaa return as the Guardians from earlier MCU films, with Kevin Bacon and Maria Bakalova also appearing. Before it was revealed in December 2020, Gunn worked on the concept for the special throughout the development of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017). During the development of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, filming took place in Atlanta, Georgia and Los Angeles from February to late April 2022. (2023).
