Two Barbados fisherman recently recounted a 3.5-mile encounter with a marine “monster” off Shower Bank, Barbados.
Wendel Bryan and Joel Brooker, a fishing companion, observed the beast, which Brooker described as 40 feet long with a flat head, two eyes, and a mouth that stayed open during the incident. Brooker first mistook it for a sunfish, but later realised it was a submarine. He didn’t understand it was a live organism until he saw little symbiotic fish clinging to it.
Brooker dismisses the possibility that it was a shark of any kind. In fact, he thought it didn’t resemble anything he’d seen in the water before.
I was in Barbados two years ago, looking into the mystery surrounding the fabled Chase Vault, which you can read about here. And, having spent many years in the Caribbean, I can easily picture the backdrop for this wonderful storey of rising marine creatures. Perhaps there will be more sightings in the future.
