New Delhi, India – February 27, 2024: In a significant diplomatic development, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister, Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, landed in New Delhi early Monday morning, marking the initiation of his first official visit to India. The visit carries substantial weight, with Nukara set to co-chair the 10th India-Thailand Joint Commission meeting alongside External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at Hyderabad House in Delhi on Tuesday.
Randhir Jaiswal, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, took to the social media platform X to extend a warm welcome, posting, “A warm welcome! Deputy PM & FM @drparnpreeb of Thailand arrives in New Delhi on his first official visit to India. He will co-chair the 10th – Joint Commission Meeting with EAM @DrSJaishankar. Nukara will begin his four-day official visit to India today.”
During his four-day sojourn, Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara is scheduled to meet Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday, emphasizing the multifaceted nature of the diplomatic engagements. The visit aims to bolster bilateral relations and explore avenues for collaboration in various sectors.
Notably, the 9th India-Thailand Joint Commission Meeting took place in Bangkok on August 17, 2022, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Further strengthening ties, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited Bangkok from August 16-18, 2022, to co-chair the 9th Meeting of the India-Thailand Joint Commission (JCM) with Thailand’s then-Deputy PM Don Pramudwinai.
The upcoming Joint Commission meeting holds promise for deepening cooperation and fostering partnerships in trade, investment, security, and cultural exchanges. Both nations have a history of fruitful collaboration, and this meeting is poised to set the stage for even more robust ties in the future.
In a prior engagement on February 8, a Thailand delegation, led by Senator Pikulkeaw Krairiksh, paid a visit to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at Parliament House. During the meeting, Birla presented the delegation with mementoes and a copy of the Constitution of India, showcasing the warmth of India’s hospitality. The Thailand parliamentary delegation, in turn, expressed their interest in investing in various projects, hoping to find alignment with India’s strategic goals. Senator Pikulkeaw Krairiksh also commended the hospitality extended during their stay in India.
