My hopes are crossed, especially given Paul W.S. Anderson’s past two films, the bland Soldier and the awful Resident Evil.
The Alien/Predator combat sequences were much more fascinating than anything going on with the humans, and the frantic ending brought some thrills. AVP has the usual flaws of modern trash films – dialogue so uninspired it could be read from a driver’s ed manual; an excessively cold-blooded quality when it came to killing off its supporting cast – but it provided a pretty decent monster fight in its last third; the Alien/Predator fight scenes were far more entertaining than anything It wasn’t as awful as it may have been, but it was still an insult to two once-excellent series.
