Spain is Investigating Allegations of Sexual Abuse Against Dani Alves

A Spanish court has opened an investigation into allegations that former Brazil defender Dani Alves sexually assaulted a woman in a Barcelona nightclub last month.

The Supreme Court of Catalonia province said in a statement that a court in Barcelona had opened an investigation into “a crime of sexual harassment resulting from a complaint filed by a woman against a football player”.

Although Alves was not mentioned by name in the announcement, informed sources confirmed to “Agence France Presse” that the inquiry concerns the former Barcelona and Juventus player.

Catalan police said they received a complaint on January 2 from a woman who accused Alves of touching her inappropriately.

The alleged sexual assault took place on the night of December 30-31 at a popular nightclub in Barcelona, where the player allegedly sexually assaulted a woman, according to Spanish media reports.

Alves, 39, confirmed he was in the nightclub at the time but denied any wrongdoing. He told Spanish network Intina 3 last week that he had never seen the woman before

I was there, many people had fun in that place. Everyone knows that I love to dance and have fun without violating other people’s privacy,” he added.

Alves, who currently plays with Mexican side Pumas Onam, is in Barcelona on holiday after participating in the World Cup, where the veteran will now defend the colors of the Selecao in the finals.
