During these years, Sony has made some of the best action cams on the market. Of course, nobody managed to reach GoPro’s performances, but there were a few manufacturers that were up there.
One of those manufacturers is Sony. Sony’s action cam line is probably the second most recommended line on the action cam field.
The flagship device of this line is the FDR-X3000. This new action-cam is available at the price of 399 dollars. At this price tag, customers will receive optical image stabilization, a feature that customers won’t receive on the GoPro Hero5 Black.
Moreover, Sony’s new action cam comes with a great video quality.
Another great thing about the new Sony FDR-X3000 is that it offers 100Mbps XAVC S compression. But, the bad thing about this cam is that it doesn’t come with an integrated viewfinder LCD. But, this doesn’t mean that it is bad. Not at all.
We must say that Sony FDR-X3000 is one of the best alternatives to the GoPro’s action cam line. Moving to the design, we must say that Sony’s camera is not similar with other competitors. As we know, a large number of action cams are tempted to copy GoPro’s look.
Well, Sony’s new camera is a little bit different. This camera is more like a sized-down camcorder.
Customers should know that the camera’s body measures 1.8 x 1.2 x 3.4 inches and weighs 4.1 ounces. To be added that it has a white body that is protected from splashes and dust. Unfortunately, users won’t be able to submerge this camera.
But, they should know that there is an underwater housing placed inside the box. So, if users will place the camera inside this underwater housing they will be able to record underwater. The company claims that the housing is rated to approximately 200 feet underwater.
After we saw the body’s measurements, we are aware that the new Sony FDR-X3000 won’t be able to fit into some tight spots like the Hero5 Black can. But, we must appreciate that the company offers a standard tripod mount on both external and body housing.
This means that customers won’t have to pay extra for other accessory mounts. To be added that customers will find the stereo microphone and lens up front, alongside with the Power and Record/Enter buttons.
On the right side, the company added a small monochrome LCD that displays settings and menus. Moreover, on the screen, customers will have Up, Down, and Menu buttons for navigation.
As for connectivity, we must say that the new Sony FDR-X3000 comes with three ports: a micro HDMI to connect to a monitor, a micro USB for battery charging, and a 3.5mm microphone port.
To be added that there is also a memory card slot that accepts Sony’s Memory Stick Micro formats. In the end, we must say that the battery compartment is situated on the left side of the action cam.
