Skwad Producers Describe Some Of The Film's Characters

Many know the likes of Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Superman, and so on. You can walk up to someone on the streets and ask who these people are and most will answer immediately! However for characters in Suicide Squad itโ€™s a different story, a lot of people wouldnโ€™t know who Enchantress, Katana, nor Killer Croc. To help with the lack of knowledge, the following are some character descriptions for a few of the members of Suicide Squad given by the filmโ€™s producers, Andy Horwitz and Richard Suckle.

Enchantress: โ€œShe is a witch. I think sorcerer is one way to describe her, but at the end of the day, sheโ€™s a witch. I think, what would a contemporary, modern day witch look like? Plus, I think trying to take her old look, which is closer to right here, and contemporize it and make it a little bit darker and a little more witch-like. A little bit more grounded, a little bit more real.โ€ โ€“ Horwitz

Captain Boomerang: โ€œJai Courtney, Captain Boomerang. A great actor and a great guy. One of the fun things about this character is that Iโ€™ve not seen every film Jai has made but Iโ€™ve probably seen most of them and I donโ€™t think heโ€™s ever been able to play a role that allows him to really be funny and heโ€™s incredibly funny. You can just look at him and Iโ€™m sure the way you would describe him without me telling you what he does in the movie would probably be very close to what Iโ€™m about to say. He is a wise ass. Heโ€™s a hunk to a certain extent and heโ€™s got an incredible wise cracking sense of humor. At the same time, he is equally dangerous and has these very dangerous boomerangs, one of which heโ€™s holding. Now there is a boomerang that is actually a drone boomerang, which plays a role in the movie. Heโ€™s just a fun character that shakes things up and also has a level of unpredictability as well.โ€ โ€“ Suckle

Deadshot: โ€œObviously great to have Will [Smith] in this movie. Heโ€™s a fantastic leader, not only as Deadshot but also as just a person. He really is and Iโ€™d heard great things about it and everything I heard is true. Heโ€™s a great leader. Heโ€™s a fantastic guy and he is just an amazing presence and has such a great positivity and so happy to be here and be a part of the movie and his energy is infectious. [David Ayer], of course, as the writer/director, it all sort of flows from him, but Will equally I think brings so much great energy and vibe to the movie. Itโ€™s a great character. Heโ€™s got a great back story. Thatโ€™s one of the things I love about what Davidโ€™s done. In addition to them being this dysfunctional, rag tag, Dirty Dozen-like group that has to come together to go on this mission and hopefully succeed, Davidโ€™s done a great job of giving you back stories and understanding these characters beyond what you would just see on the surface as bad guys that are forced to go do something because Amanda Waller is telling them they have to. Rick Flag, and itโ€™s sort of the proverbial parent having to sort of try to keep this group in line. Starting with Deadshot, heโ€™s got a fantastic back story and you get to see things about these characters that I truly donโ€™t think you necessarily get to see in comic book films and thatโ€™s something that gives these characters a tremendous amount of emotional depth and you really connect with them emotionally, which is challenging when youโ€™re taking characters that are really villainous and bad guys and having to root for them.โ€ โ€“ Suckle

Harley Quinn: โ€œMargot has just been doing an incredible job with Harley, blowing us away every single day on set with what sheโ€™s willing to do and what she can do. I think weโ€™ve taken some liberties with the creative with the character and obviously had some fun up there, but of course gave you some of the iconic stuff that you always know about her. Her โ€˜Good Nightโ€™ bat, of course, is a big part of the movie. She carries it for most of it. We created a special gun for her, which is her love/hate gun that she carries around.โ€ โ€“ Horwitz

Katana: โ€œKaren Fukuhara is a young actress who won the role through auditioning. We needed to find a Japanese or a Japanese American actress, which we did. One of the other things we were hoping to find, which we did, is an actress who also had a level of proficiency in martial arts, which Karen did which was helpful. Of course, when you have actors, as much as you can show the stunt doubles, itโ€™s a lot better and much more realistic if you can have your actors doing things themselves. She brought that already to the party and has been a great find. As Andy said earlier, she works really hard. I donโ€™t know how many but itโ€™s not that many times where she hasnโ€™t done the stunt herself. She has a lot of stunts that she actually has to perform as this character and itโ€™s been an amazing, amazing journey for her. Sheโ€™ll tell you. Sheโ€™s wonderful in the film. She works hard and has really embodied Katana. Itโ€™s a great character because the whole story with the Soul Taker and how her dead husband is trapped in the sword, and she speaks to it. Itโ€™s really, I have to say, emotional. Itโ€™s really wonderful.โ€ โ€“ Suckle

โ€œSheโ€™s kind of like the whip, I think, when Flag needs to crack the whip. Sheโ€™s the one that helps do that. I think as you saw in the trailer, thereโ€™s a moment where she throws Boomerang up against the wall. Sheโ€™s a scary little girl, I will say. Everyone knows it in the movie.โ€ โ€“ Horwitz

Killer Croc: โ€œI think Killer Croc is one of the characters that most people are really excited for. Heโ€™s obviously a classic Batman villain, and for us I think when approaching the character, I think the first thing that David said we all agreed is weโ€™re not having a full CG character in this movie. It was something that, once we committed to that idea, it was quite a commitment because as you can see, his makeup and his prosthetics are incredible. Iโ€™ve never seen anything like it on set. He truly does, and you guys will see him tonight, he looks amazing. You can sit one foot away from his face and stare at him and you canโ€™t figure out if itโ€™s real or if itโ€™s not. Itโ€™s three hours in the chair every single day for him and itโ€™s quite a commitment, but heโ€™s really brought something amazing to the character. Heโ€™s not just a guy with a ton of prosthetics on. Heโ€™s figured out ways to move his face underneath that prosthetic that does interesting things, and heโ€™s really worked with it with the teeth and how to blink. Heโ€™s really not just wearing that, heโ€™s really doing quite a performance. Heโ€™s figured out an interesting way to walk and to move and to talk. I think heโ€™s going to be one of the fan favorites in terms of what he does in the movie because itโ€™s quite cool.โ€ โ€“ Horwitz

The Joker: โ€œI donโ€™t think itโ€™s a surprise to say that the Joker and Harleyโ€™s relationship and a good portion of the story is very important in this film, so you can draw from what you want but the Joker/Harley relationship is key and itโ€™s something that is very important in this movie in addition to the actual Suicide Squad themselves and the mission that theyโ€™re going on. Itโ€™s a very important relationship that we explore many things aboutโ€ฆ.One of the cool things also about the Joker that we talk about is Davidโ€™s take on him is, heโ€™s a business man. Heโ€™s crazy of course, and he kills people, but heโ€™s super right. Heโ€™s running a business. If you could imagine the head of any successful corporation, he runs his business that way. He just happens to be a psychopath. Heโ€™s very, very conscientious of his business and heโ€™s also very conscientious of the way he dresses. Style is a really big part of this Joker. It would be important to him to know what next yearโ€™s Prada would be like because he may want to have it a year before everybody else. He sets trends and thatโ€™s a really cool character and I really think you havenโ€™t seen the version of this Joker ever before, and of course there have been great people and great versions of the character.โ€ โ€“ Suckle

It feels good to be badโ€ฆ Assemble a team of the worldโ€™s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the governmentโ€™s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity.  U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do.  However, once they realize they werenโ€™t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide itโ€™s every man for himself?

Warner Bros. Pictures presents, an Atlas Entertainment production, a film by David Ayer, โ€œSuicide Squad.โ€ The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. The film opens worldwide in 3D, and in 2D, and in select IMAX 3D theaters beginning August 5, 2016.
