nI have already posted about Qatar’s “National Day,” which is celebrated on December 18. Apparently, for more than 30 years Qatar celebrated its national day on September 3, given that it is its independence day. In 2007, the holiday was switched to the December 18 anniversary of Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani becoming the ruler, because he is credited with unifying the local tribes.

nOne thing that is interesting about Qatar is that it is building a planned city that will have marinas; artificial islands and island resorts; housing for up to 250,000 people and all the things they would need, including 36 schools; luxury shopping; a golf course community; and areas called Entertainment City, Entertainment Island, Media City, and Energy City. It is still under construction, but it’s been reported that 80% of the infrastructure is completed.
