Samsung turns Galaxy Note 10 screen into a speaker

There is a good chance that the next Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and its Pro model will offer the same SoD (on-screen sound) technology that we see today on the Huawei P30 Pro or the LG G8 ThinQ.

If this were to be true, the next Note 10 would lose the stereo speakers we saw on the Note 9 and Galaxy S10.

But not only Samsung’s flagships would have this kind of technology. The same source confirms that LG would also begin to mount mobiles with a loudspeaker on the screen.

The Galaxy Note 10 will feature something called Sound on Display (SoD). The technology will make it possible to use the glass of the device as a diaphragm and thus generate the sound. This technology first appeared in the LG G8 cell phone at the beginning of the year, but in the case of the G8, the screen works by amplifying the sound produced by the built-in speakers in the smartphone.

According to the rumor informant, Samsung’s idea of decreasing the size of the Note 10’s borders will limit the space reserved for the speakers. In this way, the company was “forced” to use some technology that did not require much space to generate sound, hence the development of new technology.

In order to get the sound on display to work, the screen uses vibration technology to carry the sound to your ear. Samsung brought the feature to its Galaxy M40 earlier this year, but according to SamMobile, it was roundly criticized by users who said that it didn’t deliver the kind of volume and sound quality you’d expect in an earpiece.

The LG G8 features a similar feature called Crystal Sound OLED, which we found good for making calls but not the best for listening to music. SamMobile says that Samsung may decide to pair sound on display with a traditional speaker to deliver 2-channel sound.

However, we have to be careful, as it is not official information, so we do not have much expectation.
