Russia Has Intensified Its Bombardment On Bakhmut, Target Is Strategic

The Ukrainian General Staff reported on Tuesday that Russian forces continued their bombardment of the city of Bakhmut, Solidar and several areas and towns in Donetsk.

Without success, Russian forces are focusing their efforts on capturing the Donetsk region within the administrative borders, authorities said.

The General Staff’s statement confirmed, “Russian forces are continuing their offensive operations towards Bakhmut, Avadiv and Liman in an effort to improve the strategic position on the Kobian side.

On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his forces were bracing for “new and more serious attacks” on Solidar, near Bakhmut, in the east of the country Moscow has been trying to control for months.

Zelensky explained in his daily speech:

I thank all our soldiers defending Bakhmut and all the warriors of Solidar who are withstanding the new and more intense attacks of the invaders.
Thanks to the recovery of our soldiers in Solidar, we got extra time for Ukraine.
Everything was completely destroyed. All of Solidar’s land is covered with corpses of invaders and crippled by explosions.

Solidar is located in the Donetsk region, 15 kilometers from the city of Bakhmut, which had a population of 70,000 before the war and is now the center of combat.

Earlier on Monday, Ukrainian forces announced that they had repelled an attempt to seize Solidar, but fighting has resumed.

Deputy Defense Minister Ghana Maliar said in a telegram. “After a failed attempt by the enemy to take control of Solidar, the Russians regrouped, restored manpower, moved additional offensive units, changed tactics, and launched attacks.”
