Russian defense ministry says its forces have taken city of Melitopol
After surviving a full-scale attack by Russian troops, President Zelenskyy said that he is staying in the capital Kyiv.
On Saturday morning, an advisor to Ukraine’s president declared the country’s military was in charge after a night of Russian assaults in cities.
However, presidential advisor Mykhailo Podoliak declared that the situation was under control, despite heavy combat in the metropolis of Kyiv and the seaside city of Mariupol.
According to Podoliak, “we knew that tonight was going to be a rough night” and that Russia’s efforts to attack Ukrainian cities “didn’t succeed.”
“Full scale storm” on Kyiv had been Zelenskyy’s warning, and the Russian general looked to be standing in front of a building adjacent to the presidential office on Saturday morning in a video he shared on his Facebook page. This is where I’m at,” he said.
Zelenskyy refuted reports of an evacuation, claiming they were made up. In the video, he declared, “We will not lay down our weapon, we will safeguard our nation.”
