Protein Deficiency Affects 73% of Indian Foods

In India, 73% of people eat too little protein, and the problem is much worse among vegetarians, who account for a far higher percentage of the population.

The survey done by market research company IMRB found that 84% of vegetarian diets are deficient in protein, compared to 66% of non-vegetarian diets that are deficient in protein.

Lucknow is the most protein deficient city in India (90 per cent). In Ahmedabad and Chennai, the shortage is 84%, Vijayawada is 72%, Mumbai is 70%, Delhi is 60%, and Kolkata is 6%.

The research, titled Understanding Protein Myths & Gaps among Indians, included 1,800 participants from the east, west, north, and south of India.

According to the report, 93 percent of Indians are ignorant of their necessary protein needs.

This beliefs about protein, which is an essential food for humans, is prevalent among Indians,” according to a survey.

Only one-third of those polled strongly agreed that a lack of protein may lead to weakness and exhaustion, therefore the researchers concluded that Indians aren’t aware of the dangers of protein deficit.

A detailed analysis at different consumer sectors revealed that males with families account for 75% of the shortage, while moms account for 72%.

Nearly all respondents (93%), including pregnant women (97%), nursing moms (96%), and teenagers (97%), had no clue how much protein they should be getting daily (95 per cent).
