Pacific Rim 2 Gets New Release Date And Possibly Scott Eastwood

With the sequel to the 2013 film Pacific Rim getting a newly announced director in Marvel’s Daredevil’s Steven S. DeKnight and starring The Force Awakens’ John Boyega, as the son of the character played by Idris Elba in the del Toro-directed original film, Legendary Pictures has given it an official release date that’ll hopefully stick. The kaiju and gigantic knuckle-busting robot fueled film will hit cinemas and the world over February 23rd, 2018; it’s placed between the openings of two Marvel movies: Marvel Studio’s Black Panther on February 16 and an untitled Fox/Marvel pic on March 2.

Production begins in the fourth quarter on the film based on the world created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham. The 2013 original starring Idris Elba and Charlie Hunnam shot up $411M worldwide, with its overseas take more than tripling domestic. Del Toro directed it based on a script he penned with Beacham.
