This Saturday morning (January 21), a car crash caused one death and two serious injuries on the IP3, towards Tondela Viseu, in the Parada de Gonta area., Portugal.
However, on arrival at the scene, firefighters found three people incarcerated, one of whom was in cardiac arrest and whose death was eventually declared on the spot.
The injured were transported to the hospital in Viseu.
The Tondela Volunteer Firefighters, the Immediate Life Support Ambulance from Tondela, the VMER from Viseu, and the GNR were mobilised to the site, totaling 18 operators and eight vehicles.
According to information from the Civil Protection Sub-regional Command of Viseu, the alert for the accident occurred at 8:15 am in the case of “a slight miscarriage with three victims,” which led to the interruption of the IP3 in the direction in which the mishap occurred. The road would eventually be reopened shortly afterwards.
The commander of the Tondela Fire Department, Nuno Pereira, said that initially the alert was for a car to be lost, before the Parada de Gonta junction, “with one victim,” but when the first operatives arrived at the scene, they came to the conclusion that it would be three victims, all male, aged between 20 and 25. The three men were trapped in the vehicles.
One person ended up dying, and the other two were seriously injured, with multiple injuries. Critical injuries were considered. “The mortal victim was in cardiorespiratory arrest; manoeuvres were still carried out, but death was eventually declared on the spot,” he added.
According to Nuno Pereira, in the place where the accident occurred, close to the Parada de Gonta junction, toward Tondela Viseu, road accidents often occur.
“It is an area with accidents; many people have died there, but it is not considered a black spot,” he lamented, defending the adoption of measures in that area, giving the example of installing a central separator.
Seven vehicles and 17 operators from the Tondela Fire Department, GNR, and INEM were used in the rescue operations.
