November 26 – Constitution Day in India

nPosted on November 26, 2019

n

nThe Constituent Assembly of India adopted the nation’s constitution on this date in 1949. The first Constitution Day – celebrated in 2015 – was a big deal (you know, compared to most nations’ Constitution Days!), with essay contests and online quiz competitions, lectures and readings in schools, debates in universities – lots of opportunity to discuss ideas and learn about the constitution!

n

n

n

nThere was even a “Run for Equality”!

n

n

n

nWhen a constitution is adopted in 1949, why start celebrating it in 2015? Well, the main writer of India’s constitution, B. R. Ambedkar, was born in 1891, so 2015 was the year of the 125th anniversary of his birth. Indians celebrated Ambedkar’s contributions and ideas all year long!
