n

nInnthe U.S., many people enjoy fireworks on the evening of our nationalnholiday, July 4.

n

n

n
n

nInnMonaco, people enjoy spectacular fireworks the night before thennational holiday.

n

n
n

n

nSonthat means that all the whizzes and the booms, all the bangs and popsnand pows, all the huge sparkly blooms of a firework show over a harbor happenednlast night

n

n

n

nAnd that means—we missed it!

n

n
n

n

n

n

n

n

nTodaynthe people of the Principality of Monaco are enjoying the pomp andncircumstance of the Knights of Malta, state officials, and diplomatsncongregating in a gorgeous array of uniforms at mass and in the PlacenSt. Nicholas afterwards. They are crowding under the windows of the Prince’snPalace to see the “Princely family” wave.

n

n

n

n

n

n

n

nThey are eating dried fish andnbarbajuans, dumplings or pastry pockets filled with Swiss chard, nspinach, ricotta, Parmesan cheese, onions and leeks. (Barbajuansnsound a bit like Italian raviolis or Polish pierogies.)

n

n
n

n

nMonaconis a record-holder!

n

n
n

n

nMonaconis a city that is also a nation—the second smallest independentnnation in the world. It is surrounded by France and the MediterraneannSea. It has the highest population density and thenlowest unemployment rate of any nation in the world. (It’s really hard to have anlower unemployment rate – since there is ZERO unemployment innMonaco!)

n

n
n

n

nMonaconis a playground?

n

n
n

n

nBecausenof it’s pleasant weather, beautiful scenery, and low tax rates,nMonaco is often called the playground of the super-rich. Check outnthis little vacation “shack.”
