Nigeria floods are causing havoc. More than 600 people lost their lives due to floods. Many towns and villages were submerged. Millions of people were displaced due to floods. The people there are waiting for the help provided by the state governments. Also, the public representatives and officials there are working to protect the people.
Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sadia Umar Farooq, has advised local authorities to evacuate people living in flood-affected areas. “Unfortunately over 603 people have lost their lives till October 16, 2022,” he added. More than 82,000 houses and about 110,000 hectares (272,000 acres) of agricultural land were completely destroyed.
Millions of people have already left their homes and are sheltering in resettlement centers due to the floods. This flood has affected 27 states out of 36 states of the country. But the relevant authorities say that heavy rains and climate change are the reasons for the occurrence of floods at this level. The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has warned that floods may continue in some states in the south of the country until the end of November. Exactly ten years ago, a similar flood occurred and around 360 people died, while 0.2 million people were left homeless.
