So above you will see newly released concept art by Andy Park for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which features a lot of familiar faces, Star-Lord, Drax, Groot, Yondu, Nebula, Gamora, and Rocket, but a face we haven’t seen before, Mantis. She is the one with the antennae and green face and will be played by Pom Klementieff.
Mantis is a character that we will get to know during the film and will see her personality evolve. “She has never really experienced social interaction,” says executive producer Jonathan Schwartz. “Everything she learns about dealing with people, she learns from the Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a very weird group to learn your social intricacies from.”
While we will definitely get a new character in the form of Mantis we might get another in the form of an old face as Groot may not be the same old tree-talking humanoid from the 2014 film. “He doesn’t have the wisdom and experience of that Groot,” Schwartz says. “He’s a younger Groot and a more rambunctious Groot. The question is, is he the same Groot, just smaller? Or is he a different Groot that’s sprung up from the seed of the first Groot?”
