Nikola Tesla was a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and futurist who is best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electrical supply system. Born on July 10, 1856, in Smiljan, Croatia, Tesla showed an early aptitude for science and engineering. He attended the Austrian Polytechnic in Graz and later worked for the Continental Edison Company in Paris, where he developed his interest in alternating current and power transmission.
Of all the world’s greatest inventors, Nikola Tesla would have to be rated as one of the greatest. He was a genius and an eccentric; he was not afraid to think outside the square. Yet his work is both praised and lambasted, as many see his ideas as crackpot. But a lot of his inventions were most certainly ahead of their time, and today we benefit from many of his ideas.
