Mithun Chakraborty to Receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award!

Mithun Chakraborty, a veteran of the Hindi film industry, is set to receive the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced this exciting news on social media platform X. The award will be presented at the 70th National Film Award Ceremony on October 8, 2024.

In his post, Vaishnaw praised Mithun’s incredible journey in cinema, stating, “Mithun Chakraborty’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires many generations.” The Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury recognized his significant contributions to Indian cinema.

Mithun Chakraborty has had a remarkable 48-year career, appearing in over 350 films across various languages, including Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Odia, and Bhojpuri. He has won the National Film Award three times. Born on June 16, 1950, Mithun began his career in 1976 with Mrinal Sen’s film Mrigayaa, which earned him his first National Award.

He gained fame in the 1980s and 90s for his action and dance films. The blockbuster Disco Dancer (1982) made him a household name. Other notable films include Surakksha (1979), Wardat (1981), Pyar Jhukta Nahin (1985), Agneepath (1990), Gunda (1998), and the recent The Tashkent Files (2019). His second National Award came from the film Tahader Katha (1993), and he won his third for Swami Vivekananda (1996). In April 2024, he was also honored with the Padma Bhushan Award.

Beyond films, Mithun has been active in TV shows and politics, showcasing his versatility. His legacy continues to inspire many in the industry.
