nThis coverage left a gaping hole on Tuesday of Name Week, but never fear, there IS a special name day: Unique Names Day.

n
nHere are some problems with unique names:
n
n
- n
- Often, nobody knows how to spell them, or pronounce them. So someone with a unique name has to spend their entire life correcting people or slo-o-o-owly spelling and then respelling their name.
n
n
n
- n
- Sometimes unique names become not-so-unique!

n
nHere are some good things about unique names:
n
n
n
n
- n
- Standing out, being noticed, being remembered.
n
n
Not every celebrity can go by just one name. “Michael”… “Jennifer”… we need more to know who you’re talking about! But “Oprah” is all we need! |
n
- n
- Being able to go by just one name.
- Not having to turn around every three minutes as someone calls out an all-too-common name.
n
n
n
Apparently, for decades every elementary classroom had at least two Erics/Eriks/Ericas/Erikas. A few might have had three! |

Lucky Blue Smith and Stormi Bree named their daughter Gravity. |
n
Kate Winslet and her husband chose to name their son Bear Blaze, so Ellen DeGeneres gave her some great gifts! |
n
n
Mariah Carey and Moroccan |

nParents who look far and wide for a great baby name – looking through baby name books and fiction and ancient history and mythology and maybe even atlases – often come up with first names that are not exactly unique…but that are very, very unusual. Kier, Kinsley, Khaleesi, Kiefer, Kayden, Kailani, Keyla, Kaven – just to name some “K”s – these are all unusual names, not unique in the whole entire world, but quite possibly unique in one’s community.
n
n
n
Some of these “K” names are more common… |
