n

nThis coverage left a gaping hole on Tuesday of Name Week, but never fear, there IS a special name day: Unique Names Day.

n

n

n

n

nHere are some problems with unique names:

n

n

    n

  • Often, nobody knows how to spell them, or pronounce them. So someone with a unique name has to spend their entire life correcting people or slo-o-o-owly spelling and then respelling their name.
  • n

n

    n

  • Being teased or laughed at.
  • n

n

    n

  • Sometimes unique names become not-so-unique!
  • n

n

n

n

n

n

n

n

n

n

n

n

The name Beyoncé was totally unique when the famous
singer’s mom gave it to her – but now there are at least
2,000 women named Beyoncé in the U.S. – most of them
between the ages 10 and 15. So…. that name is no
longer unique!

n

n

n

nHere are some good things about unique names:

n

n

    n

  • Standing out, being noticed, being remembered.
  • n

n

n

n

n

Not every celebrity can go by just
one name. “Michael”… “Jennifer”…
we need more to know who you’re
talking about!

But “Oprah” is all we need!

n

    n

  • Being able to go by just one name.
  • n

  • Not having to turn around every three minutes as someone calls out an all-too-common name.
  • n

n

n

n

n

Apparently, for decades every elementary classroom had at least
two Erics/Eriks/Ericas/Erikas. A few might have had three!

n

n

n

n

n

n

n

n

n

nHere are some examples of unique names:

n

n

n

n

n

n

Nicole Richie and Sparrow

n

n

n

n

Lucky Blue Smith and Stormi Bree
named their daughter Gravity.

n

n

n

n

Kate Winslet and her husband chose to name their son Bear Blaze,
so Ellen DeGeneres gave her some great gifts!

n
n

n

n

n

Mariah Carey and Moroccan

n

n

n

nParents who look far and wide for a great baby name – looking through baby name books and fiction and ancient history and mythology and maybe even atlases – often come up with first names that are not exactly unique…but that are very, very unusual. Kier, Kinsley, Khaleesi, Kiefer, Kayden, Kailani, Keyla, Kaven – just to name some “K”s – these are all unusual names, not unique in the whole entire world, but quite possibly unique in one’s community.

n

n

n

n

n

n

Some of these “K” names are more common…
