Notorious B.I.G. was killed in March 9, 1997, and in honor of the 19th anniversary of his death, Lil’ Kim remembers her mentor and former lover with a new track.
Teaming up with Maino, the female emcee was featured on the new song “Did It for Brooklyn,” which they chose to debut on Wednesday in honor of the late rapper.
“He became my friend, my lover, my everything,” Kim tells Entertainment Weekly of Biggie Smalls. “I was his biggest fan.”
Kim became acquainted with B.I.G. when she joined his Junior Mafia Crew in 1995.
“He knew I would be the number one female artist. He knew I would be the biggest female rapper,” she explained. “I think I inspired him to want to do different things and be different. We were a match made in heaven, like Sonny and Cher or Ashford and Simpson.”
Along with the release of the new song, Lil’ Kim will also perform a tribute concert in Biggie’s honor on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile both Sean “Diddy” Combs and Faith Evans have also shared some messages over social media.
Diddy shared two separate posts on Instagram. The first one featured a black and white photo of the late rapper with the caption: “Miss You #BIG #badboy #brooklyn.” Beside the second photo (seen above), he wrote: “The game ain’t been the same since! Miss you bra! #BIG #rip.”
Evans reposted the collage below with the caption, “R.I.P BIG! We miss you!”
