Karnataka Kambala Protest Live Updates: After revocation of ban on Tamil Nadu traditional sport ‘Jallikattu’ has triggered a massive protest in Karnataka in support of Kambala Traditional Sport– the state’s annual buffalo race. Same as Jallikattu Protests have erupted in several parts of Karnataka, like Hubballi and Mangaluru and Mangalore – in support of the buffalo-cart race. There have also been calls to ban the India unit of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

While Addressing to media the protesters, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, Dakshina Kannada, said, “Kambala is a traditional sport of Tulunadu and without understanding the difference between Jalikattu and Kambala, PETA had filed a petition to ban Kambala.

They should know that there is no cruel treatment given to during the sport. We all should join hands and intensify our Protest until the Ban on Kambala lifted”.The other organization that took part in the protest included right-wing activists and student organizations.

Responding to the call by the All College Students Union, students left their schools and colleges to participate in the protest. Holding placards in support of Kambala, they chanted “We want Kambala.”

27th Jan 15:01 pm: The protests are expected to only get stronger because political support is starting to come in. For starters, former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa has already promulgated the idea of an ordinance – a la Jallikattu – to bring back Kambala.

27th Jan 15 pm: Current Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also thrown his weight behind the protest and protesters, saying: “We are for Kambala, not against it. It is a rural sport. If necessary, we will bring legislation to it.”

27th Jan 10:17 am: Kambala is a traditional annual buffalo race conducted in marshy fields in coastal districts ok Karnataka.
