This is an update of my post published on July 1, 2010:

This national holiday celebrates the day the provinces of Canada united under one government in 1867.

Here’s a quick quiz on Canada:

7. There are hundreds of correct answers to this question. By definition, the various peoples of the Arctic, the Inuit, are not considered First Nations, but they do qualify as “other native groups.” The Métis are those with mixed ancestry – mixed First Nations, or mixed First Nation with European – and are also excluded from the term “First Nations.” Some commonly known First Nations include Mi’kmaq, Tlingit, Cree, Haida, Blackfoot, and Ojibwa.
