People are getting so heartless these days that they do now even have respect for men of God. How sad!
Kidnappers in Delta State who ceased the Bishop of Lagos Central Diocese of African Church, Rt. Rev. Gabriel Adebanjo and his wife, have released him after undisclosed sum of money was paid as ransom.
But unfortunately, his wife, Dorcas, who is a teacher in a school in Ogun State, who was kidnapped with him, was not released by the bad guys. Maybe they didn’t get “enough” money.
According to Punch, the bishop and his wife had gone to Delta on December 5, to attend harvest programme, which was supposed to hold the following day, but they never made it to their destination.
They had got to Effurun Junction, where they met a fire disaster which necessitated the diversion of traffic. They took another route, where they were kidnapped and their driver shot in the hand and leg.
The bad guys transferred the couple from their car to another vehicle which they brought for the mission.
The kidnappers had initially demanded N100m, but reduced their demand to N50m and later to N20m.
When the sum was reduced to N10m, the church said it could not afford it, but further appealed for the cash to be reduced were rejected by the bad guys.
The church raised N2m and had been making efforts to see the Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, to assist in the release of the victims.
A source in the church leadership told Punch on Tuesday that the bishop had been released, adding that there was growing concern over the safety of his wife.
He said, “The bishop was released around 10pm on Monday. The church paid some money to the kidnappers. The two of them were taken together and kept in the same custody. But the kidnappers chose to release only the bishop.
“There is now a serious tension throughout the African Church over the safety of his wife, thereby necessitating more prayers for her safe return from the captors’ den.”
Guys who Kidnap Lagos Bishop & Wife release Him after Cash Payment but Keep His Wife
I just wonder what the Delta State police command is doing about this saga. Very unfortunate.
