Pep Guardiola has questioned the decisions of FIFA not to include one single Manchester City player in shortlist for the top 10 World Best Players.
City were arguably the best team in Europe after becoming the first team in Premier League history to win {Community Shield, FA Cup, Caraboa Cup and the Premier League} title. but yet, FIFA decided Liverpool players ahead of City should make three slots.
Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane all made the FIFA shortlist but despite winning just one trophy {the Champions League} while Bernando Silva who succeeded in winning four trophies with City along with the Nations League with Portugal missed out.
Guardiola is surprised with the decision and felt City are been disrespected.
“Maybe we have tow in five titles or maybe Bernando six because he won five {including the Nations League with Portugal} and it was not enough”, Guardiola said during his press conference.
“Or maybe we have to get 250 points to be there next season. We are going to try. I am taking the p**s
“And yet it must rankle. ‘I don’t think one player made a better season than Bernando Silva, even winning with Portugal. In eight years, this club won four Premier Leagues so it is quite remarkable that never in these four seasons one of our players was nominated the best in the league. Never.”
Manchester City is the first team to win back to back Premier League titles in over a decade since Alex Ferguson achieved that fate with Manchester United.
“We don’t have the history behind us but, mabye in the future people are goint to think, ‘Ok, this club is doing things, because in eight years we won four premier leagues’.
Focusing on the PFA Player of the Year in which Liverpool star Van Dijk this season and Mohamed Salah won last season, Guardiola added:
“And never won the player {of the year}, not Sergio, not David Silvn not Vincent Kompany, not Yaya Toure, not the players in the past. The year we won 100 points: huge respect for Mohamed Salah but Kevin de Bruyne was above and beyond the normal situations. But it is opinions and of course we accept that the players don’t deserve it.
“It’s because Manchester City are new in this situation in the last decade. I cannot imagine Barcelona, Real Madrid winning four titles {in the last eight years} and not one single player being there. Impossible’.
Manchester City will tackle Liverpool in he Community Shield on Sunday and Pep Guardiola will hoping to kick start his season with a trophy.
