A Ghost return to resolve unfinished business

Ghosts frequently come back to complete unfinished business. The story that follows first appeared in an old newspaper many years ago. It related the tale of a dead coal miner who, for a good reason, came back to life as a ghost.

The 1920s were the setting for this tale. An explosion occurred at a coal mine near the West Virginia border. A lucky few individuals survived while a number of men were slaughtered.

Except for one, all of the dead people’s bodies were found. Frank Cooper, a miner, was the owner of this corpse.

At that time, the majority of mine companies had unjust policies. They declared they had no duty to make amends to the miner’s family if the corpse of the miner was not discovered.

In this case, it resulted in further difficulty for the wife and six children of Frank Cooper. Even though the survivors were aware Cooper had been in the mine at the time of the explosion, the mine owners went so far as to claim there was no proof he had been there.

The proprietors said that Cooper had allegedly merely abandoned his family in order to ensure they wouldn’t have to pay anything to his wife.

Management requested volunteers to go down into section five, where the explosion took place, to clean debris and reinforce the ceiling with new beams after the incident. Nobody wanted to take on this risky task, but eventually a miner by the name of Louis volunteered.

When Louie started working at the lowest portion of this area of the mine, he heard odd noises. He looked back and noticed a shadowy figure standing behind him.
At first, he was relieved that this was a different miner who had changed his mind and had come to assist him. Louie saw that the other man looked out of the ordinary. He was incredibly pale and slender. Louie could only see two sunken holes where his eyes ought to have been.

The other man told Louie to stop as he turned back to remove some loose trash. “Not there, no. Right here! Now perplexed, Louie nonetheless followed orders. He picked up his shovel and started digging where the other man had pointed.
Soon after, he noticed an entire torso poking out of the slag, followed by a foot. When he turned back to show the other miner what he had found, he noticed that he had disappeared.

Louis was roused that evening by a tap at his door. When he responded, he recognised the mystery man from the mine. The weird man replied, “Thank you,” before he could say anything further. Now that my family is taken care of, I can relax.
In front of Louie, the person then vanished.

Louie learned that the dead he had discovered the day before was Frank Cooper when he arrived back at work the next morning.
