Washington: Bad weather before the Christmas holidays creates serious problems for Americans. Snow, rain, wind and freezing temperatures disrupt air travel as well as public transport services such as buses and Amtrak passenger trains across the continent. More than 2,270 flights have been canceled across the country due to heavy snow and sub-zero temperatures.
As a result, 2,270 flights were canceled by the respective airlines until 18:00 (local time) Thursday. About 1,000 flights were canceled early Friday morning due to bad weather. Another 85 flights were canceled on Saturday.
Officials said more than 7,400 flights were delayed on Thursday. Most of these are flights arriving and departing from Chicago and Denver, about a quarter. People mostly travel from these two airports in America. Federal Aviation Administration officials said flights to Chicago were delayed by three hours.
