Izzard is transgender and prefers
either “he” or “she” pronouns.
In the past, Izzard called himself
a transvestite.

He has said, “Women wear what
they want, and so do I.”

nI have seen comedy acts of today’s famous birthday, on video and live – and British comedian Eddie Izzard is HILARIOUS!

n
nThe time I saw Izzard live, he was so completely generous to us, the audience, responding to the request that he stick around afterwards and answer questions. He stayed a long time and was sooooo interesting and wise and sweet.
n
n
nIzzard is known for making us laugh in multiple languages. He does stand-up in English, French, German, and Spanish, and the languages he wants to start learning next are Russian and Arabic!

n

n
nIzzard used to joke about the odd things about English – and about English speakers being so much more mono-lingual than most people in the world. (In other words, so many English speakers are not fluent in any other language; in contrast, MANY people around the world speak two or three or even more languages.) But then Izzard decided that he couldn’t just joke about languages, he had to joke IN multiple languages. I once listened to a comedy routine from Izzard in French – and I understood almost all of it, even though I don’t speak French even a little!
n
nIn addition to being a comedian, Izzard is an actor and writer. He’s been in serious roles (such as in the TV show The Riches and the Ocean’s 12 and 13 movies). He’s done voices for animated movies (such as Abominable) and has of course acted in comedic roles (such as Absolutely Anything).
n
nEddie Izzard is also a political activist. He may quit comedy in order to run for office.
n
nWhen Izzard was in his late 40s, he did this really, really unlikely thing: even though he had never done any long-distance running before, for charity Izzard completed 43 marathons in 51 days!!! Crazy!
