nA nation torn apart by ethnic hate, violence, and genocide tried to heal itself, in part by declaring February 5 “Unity Day.”

nOf course, as you can imagine, there were mixed results. Since the holiday was first declared in 1992, there has been some reduction in hatred between the Hutu and Tutsi peoples, but Burundi still faces a lot of poverty and other problems.
n
n
n
nThe idea of unity is still a positive force, though, and I certainly wish Burundians good luck with their goal!

nHere are some other positives about the nation:
n
n
n
nThe source of the mighty Nile River — the longest river on Earth — is in Burundi, marked by a small pyramid that calls to mind the Ancient Egyptian pyramids thousands of miles to the north!

n
nIn addition to the source of the Nile, Burundi offers other rivers, waterfalls, and bit of shore on the gigantic Lake Tanganyika.
n
n
n
n
nAnd of course, Burundi is famous for its traditional drummers and dancers!
