nDid you know that a bluenwhale’s heart is the size of a small car?

nIt can weigh over 1,500npounds (680 kg)!

nThe aorta is large enoughnfor an adult human to crawl through!

nThe blue whale’s huge heart oftennbeats just 5 or 6 times per minute – sometimes even fewer! –nwhereas human hearts beat around 70 times per minute (while resting).

nWorldnWhale Day occurs on the second Saturday of February. It just sonhappens that THIS year, that falls on Valentine’s Day!

InnMaui, World Whale Day is a big deal. Last year 23,000 visitors andnresidents joined in with the Kalama Park Whale Day celebration. Thenday honors the humpback whales that go to Maui every winter. There isna Parade of Whales with costumed sea characters and floats of allnsorts created by local organizations and schools. There is a concert,na dance party, tons of food booths, a carnival, an artisans’ fair,nand an auction.
