nManynanimals and plants have been carefully bred, with controllednreproduction to select for desired traits such as long floppy earsn(beagles) or plump, sweet kernels (corn). Breeding dogs and farmnanimals and other pets and crops has been going on for centuries. Andnof course you can see the results in such breeding by thenbreathtaking variation of dogs with a range of sizesnfrom 4 to 43 inches tall.

nPeoplentend to think that doing the same sort of intentional breeding withnpeople is a bad thing, but of course people do select their matesnaccording to the traits they like, such as honesty and kindness andnsunny smiles.

nBut sometimes the words bred and breedingnare used with people, in sentences like these:
