Jordanian medic Dr. Muhannad Al Zabn was shot a month after he delivered his gunman’s baby after the dad returned angry that his wife hadn’t had treatment from a female gynecologist.
A Saudi man has been detained after shooting an obstetrician, arguing that he had no right to deliver his wife and should have been a doctor.
According to The Gulf News , the father went to the hospital and told the doctor that he wanted to see him to thank him for helping his wife with the birth of the baby.
The two met in the hospital garden and during the conversation, the husband took out a pistol that he had hidden under his clothes and shot the doctor.
While the father fled, doctors came to help the victim in the emergency room. The shooter was later arrested by police.
Bassam Al Buraikan, hospital spokesman confirmed the event and commented that the doctor is stable.
Most of the users of social networks shared their sympathy with the obstetrician and strongly criticized the husband.
However, some users argued that female gynecologists should always have priority in delivering babies in order to avoid culture clashes.
This incident is a tragic and horrifying example of gender discrimination and violence. It is deeply disturbing that a father would resort to such extreme measures simply because the doctor who delivered his baby was a man. This highlights the urgent need for education and awareness regarding gender equality and the importance of respecting medical professionals regardless of their gender. It is crucial that societies work towards eliminating such prejudice and ensuring the safety and well-being of healthcare providers.
