Confusion At NNPC Over Fresh Restructuring

The restructuring exercise at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation is apparently causing confusion at the oil firm as some of its officials seem not to know who to report to in what office.

It was gathered that the mild drama was because many of the corporationโ€™s employees were taken unawares by the major overhaul in the firmโ€™s organisational structure that was announced Thursday night.

The national oil firm, had late on Thursday, announced a major re-organisation of its management structure, that snowballed into 54 new appointmentsโ€ฆ

According to Punch, their correspondent had tried to conduct an interview with some senior officials of the firm on Friday as regards issues pertaining to the persistent petrol scarcity and the recently suspended industrial action by the employees of the NNPC, but could not do so as virtually none of those contacted were ready to speak on the issues.

It was learnt that the re-organisation affected most senior officials at the corporation and most of them had yet to fully settle down to know and perform their roles, while others said they could not speak as they were yet to know who to report to in order to get clearance before speaking with the press.

Some labour unionists of the firm said the re-organisation was causing apprehension among workers.

โ€œWe know they have promised that they wonโ€™t relieve workers of their jobs, but the way things are going these days and the sudden announcement of re-organisation in the NNPC, make most of us jittery,โ€ an official who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said.

The restructuring of NNPC by its Group Managing Director, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, gave rise to the appointments of new managers into the corporation, as well as the redeployment of unitsโ€™ heads.

A notice from the Office of the NNPC GMD on Friday, stated that the heads of business and services units have been redeployed, adding that the exercise was part of the recent re-organisation of the NNPC.

Since last week, Kachikwu has been talking about the planned restructuring at the national oil firm, in a bid to make it more profitable for all Nigerians.
