Bouldercombe Solar Farm
With an initial capacity of 50/100 MWh, the Bouldercombe Battery Project in Rockhampton will be one of Queensland’s first independent large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) once it is operational (2 hr storage depth).
Key Points
To enable the project to connect into the nearby 275 kV/132 kV Bouldercombe substation, Genex has secured a connection agreement with Powerlink. The project will link to a 132 kV bay that is open at the Bouldercombe substation, which is situated in a crucial area of the Queensland electrical system with good network strength and marginal loss factor profiles.
Tesla has been chosen as the BBP’s battery integrator and supplier, and the Tesla Megapack 2.0 will be used.
50MW/100MWh Bouldercombe Battery Project
With today’s approval of a development application, one of Australia’s largest solar farms will be built in the Bouldercombe area, taking advantage of the 300 days of sunshine that Rockhampton enjoys each year.
At this morning’s council meeting, the proposal by Eco Energy World (EEW) Australia to generate 300 megawatts of electricity from a soon-to-be-built plant at Cherryfield Road was accepted.
The project’s approval, according to Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow, is good news for the area because it will lead to the development of jobs.
There is potential for dozens of jobs during the site’s initial establishment and while it is operating—which is excellent, especially given that this project might have a lifespan of up to 30 years. “This is a major and extremely exciting project for our region,” Mayor Strelow remarked.
A number of solar panels will be spread out around the property as part of the project’s setup, along with two transformers and a site office. Additionally, the proposal calls for minimal disruption of the land, enabling the area to resume grazing after the solar farm is shut down.
Councillor Drew Wickerson, who chairs the council’s environment portfolio, expressed his delight at the establishment of a project of this nature in the area.
The future is bright for the sector of renewable energy in Bouldercombe and the surrounding area, according to this project, which also helps our entire region work toward a more ecologically friendly future, according to Cr. Wickerson.
