Asus ROG Strix Review Exposes a Gaming Laptop Predator

During these years, Asus has made a name for itself as an affordable and surprisingly capable gaming laptops manufacturer.

ROG Strix seems to confirm this. So, Asus’ newest notebook weighs approximately 5.5 pounds and is over an inch thick.

ROG Strix GL502 packs the latest 6th gen Intel® processor and NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX™ graphics in a compact and lightweight design. Strix GL502 enables users to enjoy high-end gaming from anywhere.

These are some great measurements, knowing the fact that it homes a GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card and an Intel Core i7-770HQ CPU, accompanied by 16GB of RAM. All these configurations are placed into a chassis that costs 1.100 dollars.

We also must say that the new Asus ROG Strix looks great and appealing. As for the name, Asus choose the name Strix, inspired after a genus of predatory owls. Customers will also notice that this new laptop is less flashy compared with its predecessors.

So, like a real predator, the new Asus ROG Strix comes with great power, sophistication and quality. We didn’t like the orange accents, but there is no doubt that there are real gamer enthusiasts who are very excited about powerful colors, just like the orange from this device.

However, this new design is totally a refreshing change for Asus, but also a compromise between slick professional design and gamer look. Just after the first look, people will notice that the new Asus ROG Strix is a gaming laptop.

The new Asus ROG Strix is well built even if it has some downsides. For example, if people will press the lid for the first time, they will notice a slight pressure to the back of the display.

But, this is not a really bad thing, because there are several laptops that have the same issue and can be bent to a degree.

We also must add that the new Asus ROG Strix comes with a high number of ports. For example, on the left side people will see two USB Type-A ports, alongside an HDMI port, one USB Type-C port, an Ethernet port and a headphone jack. On the right side, this new laptop houses an extra USB Type-C port and an optical drive.

We must say that optical drives are not so usually met on gaming laptops. But, it is a good choice by Asus to add one to its newest gaming laptop. Lately, several laptop manufacturers failed to put so much interest into the keyboards and trackpads.

But, Asus decided to put a little extra effort to this chapter and that is why the new Strix homes an excellent keyboard and surprisingly high-quality responsive trackpad.

Moreover, it wouldn’t be a gaming laptop if it didn’t have a LED backlit keyboard. So, the new Asus ROG Strix comes with sharp bright lights and it smoothly moves from one color to another.

To be added that users will be able to control the keyboard lights via an included ROG Aura app. This app will allow them to set up transition animations and customize each zone with its own color.

Moving to the trackpad, we must say that it feels pretty great. This trackpad comes with a mate texture that is pleasant to touch, sharp and surprisingly accurate.
