nTodaynis the last day of National Poetry Month. Many people celebrate it byncarrying a poem with them everywhere they go today, and sharing itnthroughout the day with family, friends, acquaintances, evennstrangers!
n
n
n
n
n
nFornpocket-fitting and sharing purposes, I think people would be wise toncarry about rather short poems!
n
n
n
nSomentowns do more for Poem in Your Pocket Day. For example,nCharlottesville, Virginia, has street teams that hand out poemnscrolls to shoppers and distribute poem scrolls to the localnhospital, children’s museum, senior centers and nursing homes, nlibraries, and even downtown businesses.
n
n
n
nSome libraries and schools and coffeeshops hold poetry readings or poetry “slams.”
n
n
n
n
n
n
nSomenpeople tweet their poems or post short poems on their blogs or socialnmedia pages.

nNature’snfirst green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’sna flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
SonEden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold cannstay.
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’sna flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
SonEden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold cannstay.

nIfnI Can Stop One Heart from Breaking
n
nbynEmily Dickinson
n
nIfnI can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
IfnI can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help onenfainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.
I shall not live in vain;
IfnI can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help onenfainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.

n
nAndnthen the day came,
when the risk
to remain tight
in anbud
was more painful
than the risk
it took
to Blossom.
when the risk
to remain tight
in anbud
was more painful
than the risk
it took
to Blossom.

nWatch your thoughts,
nFor they become words.
nWatch your words,
nFor they become actions.
nWatch your habits,
nFor they become character.
nWatch your character,
nFor it becomes your destiny.

nTonmove, to breathe, to fly, to float,
To gain all while you give,
Tonroam the roads of lands remote,
To travel is to live.
To gain all while you give,
Tonroam the roads of lands remote,
To travel is to live.
