nSausage wraps” would be a pretty good name for this dish, because everynvariation is some sort of hot dog, wiener, cocktail sausage, nchipolata, breakfast link, or other sausage wrapped in something andnthen baked or fried. n

n

n
n

n

nInnthe U.K., the sausage is wrapped in bacon. In the U.S., it’s wrappednin dough – often croissant dough or biscuit dough. In some placesnin Europe and Mexico, it’s wrapped in a pancake or puff pastry orneven tortillas. In Australia and New Zealand, it’s simply wrapped in na slice of sandwich bread!

We think that sausages-wrapped-
in-dough dishes have been eaten at least

nsince the 1600s.

n

n

n

nThese days, they seem to be most

n

npopular as party food / appetizers.

n

n

nIncouldn’t spot where the name “pigs in a blanket” came from –nbut I’m thinking it’s a British name. First of all, Brits are sondarned clever and even funny as they name dishes – like “toad in a hole,” “spotted dick,” “bubble andnsqueak,” “Cullen skink,” or “singing hinnies”!

n

n

n

nSecond, pigsnin a blanket is a traditional dish for Christmas in Britain, and it is oftennserved alongside “devils on horseback,” which consists of prunesnwrapped in bacon.

n

n

n

nPølseni svøb is a Danish version of anlong sausage wrapped in bacon, served with dipping sauce. n

nСосискаnв тесте is a Russian version of “sausage in dough.”
