Apple plans to begin accepting pre-orders for the iPhone XR

Apple plans to begin accepting pre-orders for the iPhone XR on Friday, October 19 at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time. The iPhone XR will see an official launch on Friday, October 26.

It is not clear why Apple’s iPhone XR did not launch at the same time as the iPhone XS and XS Max, but rumors suggested there were production difficulties that ultimately led to delays. Apple is now said to be reallocating iPhone XR orders among its suppliers to make sure there’s adequate iPhone XR supply at launch.

Design
The iPhone XR looks similar to the 5.8-inch iPhone XS, but it features a bigger 6.1-inch display, so it’s a mid-sized phone that falls between the iPhone XS and the 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max. It is smaller than the iPhone 8 Plus that it is replacing, but with a larger screen.

Like the iPhone XS, the iPhone XR features an edge-to-edge display with slim bezels and no Home button, instead adopting a notch and the TrueDepth camera system for Face ID. Rather than using an OLED display, the iPhone XR is equipped with an LCD that has slightly thicker bezels than the XS due to the limitations of the LCD.

At the front of the XR, there’s a notch that houses the TrueDepth camera system, speaker, and ambient light sensor, but other than that, the iPhone XR is all display.

The iPhone XR features a glass body in one of six colors along with a matching 7000 Series aluminum frame, which is lighter and less expensive than the stainless steel frame of the iPhone XS.

iPhone XR measures in at 150.9 mm tall, 75.7 mm wide, and 8.3 mm thick, which means it’s thicker than the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, which measure in at 7.7 mm. It weighs 194 grams. For comparison’s sake, the 5.8-inch iPhone XS is 143.6 mm tall and 70.9 mm wide, while the XS Max is 157.5 mm tall and 77.4 mm wide.
