The state of Albania was formally proclaimed on January 11th, 1946, as the Popular Republic of Albania.
At 13:30, when the National Assembly would proclaim Albania to be a Popular Republic in front of the people and the world, all churches in Albania were instructed to ring their bells.
Following the announcement, there were 101 cannon blasts and two days of jubilation around the nation.
The Communist Party’s secretary general, Enver Hoxha, was appointed head of state.
In exile, King Zog was branded a cruel tyrant and a traitor.
The decree was accepted by the Royal Court without any surprise or objection, although they stated that for Albanians, there is a more pressing issue than the establishment of a government.
And that topic concerned the sovereignty of the people as well as the question of national territorial integrity.
The government began writing the Constitution after establishing the Republic. This conversation went on for two months.
The new Constitution, which transformed the National Assembly into the Popular Parliament, was approved by the Assembly on March 14.
The Republic of Albania became the name in use as of 1976. The “Popular Socialist Republic of Albania” was designated in the Constitution, and it existed until 1991.
